By definition, soap is actually a salt that is made by combining a strong base—lye or sodium hydroxide, with a weak acid—the fatty acids in lard. During the soap-making process the lard saponifies the lye and it is used up completely, and the water dissipates during curing. The result is a single compound—lard soap, containing no remaining lye or water.
Praise the Lard! natural soap was formulated to strike the balance between being effective at washing away dirt and grime, but without excessively depleting our natural skin oils. Due to the abundant fat content found in lard—vitamins A, E, D and K2 as well as omega-3 fats—it has not been found to be drying to the skin. Plus, this naturally-formulated soap has the added benefit of containing no toxic seed oils, no fragrances, no parabens and no preservatives like so many other soaps found even at Farmer’s Markets or in health food stores.
As more and more people are becoming aware of the significant toxicity of manufactured industrial seed oils—even organic ones—lard and other natural fats are not only replacing these industrialized commercial oils in their kitchens, but in their bathrooms as well!
